Therapeutic indications
Metformin is indicated in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 for the control of hyperglycemia that can not be controlled by diet, exercise or weight reduction, or when insulin therapy is not required or possible.
Administration
Orally.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation, type 1 diabetes mellitus, ketoacidosis, renal insufficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, iron and folic acid deficiency, adrenal insufficiency, myocardial infarction, septicemia.
